Spring / Summer 2011

As London, fashion week draws to a close and with New York and Milan completed. A number of noted designers had the chance to display their SS/11 collections, regardless of your take on style spring /summer 2011 has something to offer everyone from the fab Male fashionista to the casual cheeky chap a combination of good old fashion tailoring with modern inspiration.  Men's SS11 is one of the most diverse and upbeat seasons we have seen in some time.
The D&G runway shows offered a stylish laid back look with jeans, tailor blazers and check shirts for those who prefer the smooth understated image however on the flip side their off white suit with slim tie creates a sensual image and looks like it just stepped out of a scene of Reservoir dogs. Prada mix it up and put on a lively display of colour with greens, blues and reds perfect for today’s vibrant male.  Gucci keep in line with the classic tailoring offering slim leg trousers and double-breasted jackets in a variety of Grays. For the more casual approach team slim leg trousers with light knits or shirts in a range of white, creams and caramel. Shorts are massive for men this session and Gucci put there spin on this by offering them in suede also really big for SS/11 the light as a feather version has taking suede to a new level of wearability pair shorts with a loose fitted shirt for the perfect summer ensemble.

From tailored to loose, trousers to shorts and leather to suede, this season’s collections defiantly have a common thread of the modern gentleman. However, as the catwalk versions filler down into high street hot picks there is most certainly something for everyone, so get shopping but remember fashion has no limits or boundaries. One size does not fit all one person’s interpretation of fashion will never be the same as another’s we are all influenced by the foundations that have been laid through years of developing styles ,designers and fashion icons however it’s about using this and embodying an image that work for you that is after all the beauty of fashion.

Do it like a brother do it like a Dude ........

With Jessie Doing like a dude, Ciara acting like a boy and Beyonce asking If she was a boy we have to question this new age musical stand that our celebrity females have taken. So my question is can females really do it like DUDES and still be ladies ???? Okay so we have come along way since being chained to the sink and just minding the kids and I am defiantly a advocate for independent woman and the era of the DIVA but can woman do what men do and still be deemed as a lady. ????

68th Annual Golden Globes Awards

The Golden Globes are always enough to wet any fahionista taste buds with anyone who’s anyone in attendance and thousands of dollars $$$ worth of gown and tux being paraded up and down the red carpet  it’s only inevitable there’s going to be a mixture of the fashion  fabulous elite and the fashion faux pas. In my opinion as strong contender for the best-dressed award has to go to Olivia Wild who sparkled like a Walt Disney princess in Marchesa. The gown was nothing short of amaze and fit her like a glove it was perfect for any suitable GG nominee. To put the cherry on the cake so to speak  she accompanied her gown with the breath taking statement gold  Christian Louboutin’s  all round a fantastic ensemble although I do think her hair up would have sealed the deal. Piper Perabo also got it right in a flawless Oscar de la renta black gown with simple hair and makeup however Leah Michele attempt a Oscar de la renta disappointed me whilst I was in love with the colour I thought the material looked very stiff and fussy and certainly did not do her any favours. I am sure bagging a GG however takes away from her less than fabulous dress.  Leighton Meester showed up in Burberry but for such a stunning girl the dress was very drab the colour didn’t complement her skin tone and was more LA afternoon red bush tea party than red carpet but I did love her Jimmy Choo’s footwear choice. Amber Riley in an embellished Oliver Tolentino however did wonders for her shape and a best-dressed contender.
In the men’s corner, I was mostly uninspired Robert Downey Jr in Prada and Johnny Depp in Ralph Lauren black label seemed to opt for the casual/messy look with RDJ going as far as to be the man in gray. Matt Bomer  on the other hand who wore a TOM FORD shawl lapel tuxedo with a white plisse shirt, and bowtie was very pleasing on the eye the simple elegant classic tux definably gives him best dressed male of the evening.

Overall, the Globes were a designer cocktail with everyone from Prada to Louboutin showing up an a bunch of exclusive A-Listers to show off their SS2011 collections in their finest, but is it really about what they wore on the night ?? Or is the true test of stardom and fabulosity who slinked away with the most golden trophies in there clutch bags or tuxedo inside pockets............Nikki Noir
